Guidance for life in Japan

It is officially called as “activity other than that permitted under the status of residence previously granted”.

Since your status of residence in Japan is “pre-college”, activities other than learning in Japanese language school, such as part-time job is regarded as “not permitted under the status of residence”. But students in Japanese language school with pre-college student visa are permitted to engage in the activity other than that permitted under the status of residence (part-time job) only for predetermined hours.

However, it is a distant idea to take part-time job soon after your arrival in Japan and we don’t recommend it. (It takes about a month to take permission to engage in activity other that that permitted under the status of residence.) Instead, it is necessary for you first to get familiar with life and practices in Japan.

Even if you take a part-time job, you have to be able to speak Japanese. Preparation and review of the class is not an easy job. It isn’t late to engage in a part-time job after you get used to the lifestyle while studying hard for four hours a day at Japanese language school.
